Quine: Filosofen som ville förankra ontologin i vetenskapen

Vem var Willard Van Orman Quine? Willard Van Orman Quine (1908–2000) var en amerikansk filosof och logiker som kom att få stort inflytande över 1900-talets analytiska filosofi. Han är särskilt känd för sitt arbete inom logik, vetenskapsteori och metafysik. Quines tankar har påverkat hur många filosofer och vetenskapsteoretiker idag ser på relationen mellan filosofi och naturvetenskap. Quines filosofi i korthet Quine menade att vi inte kan skilja skarpt mellan filosofi och vetenskap. Filosofin är inte ett separat område med egna metoder – snarare är den en förlängning av den vetenskapliga strävan att förstå världen. Hans synsätt brukar kallas naturalism : filosofin ska utgå från våra bästa vetenskapliga teorier. En av Quines mest kända teser är: "To be is to be the value of a bound variable."
